Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is a federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC's mission is to contribute to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure, and humane control. The agency operates a network of correctional institutions, community correctional centres, and parole offices across Canada.
CSC's primary focus is on the safe and secure custody of offenders, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society. The agency offers a wide range of programs and services to help offenders address their criminogenic needs, such as substance abuse, education, employment, and mental health. CSC also works closely with other criminal justice partners, community organizations, and Indigenous communities to support the successful reintegration of offenders.
The Bath Institution, located in Bath, Ontario, is one of CSC's multi-level security facilities. The institution provides a range of correctional programs and services to offenders, including education, vocational training, and substance abuse treatment. Bath Institution also operates a CORCAN (Correctional Service Canada's industrial training and employment program) facility, which offers inmates the opportunity to gain work experience and skills in various trades.
CSC is committed to transparency and accountability, regularly publishing reports on its performance, offender statistics, and the effectiveness of its programs. The agency also engages in ongoing research to improve its correctional practices and contribute to the broader field of criminal justice.
